The word Salkehatchie means “salt catcher” and it is a river location in the lower county of our state. Salkehatchie is a summer service mission project designed to work on homes of underprivileged families in the state. The goal is to make these homes warm and dry. This mission project has been the number one spiritual formation activity in which our youth participate. It is a week-long project that requires a great deal of work, trust, hope, prayers, and water to drink. But it is fun! Mission projects require that youth be at least 14 years of age and possess the ability to work all day in the hot sun. Student and adults alike who serve on these projects have the opportunity to encounter Christ in a new way.
